Research & Policy Internship
NCRP promotes philanthropy that serves the public good, is responsive to people and communities with the least wealth and opportunity, and is held accountable to the highest standards of integrity and openness. NCRP envisions a fair, just and democratic society, with Philanthropy at Its Best contributing to this society. Philanthropy at Its Best serves the public good rather than private interest, employs grantmaking and grantmaker processes that most effectively help nonprofits achieve their missions, and strengthens democracy by responding to the needs of those with the least wealth and opportunity. This work is accomplished through a combination of action, research, advocacy, and media outreach.
NCRP’s research team is working on an ambitious agenda. Interns will be involved in one of two major research initiatives for NCRP’s current fiscal year, as described in our five year strategic plan. During their ten weeks at NCRP, interns will support the finalization of a report documenting the impact of policy advocacy and organizing or contribute to the development of standards to measure responsive philanthropy as defined above. The scope of work will be finalized before the internship begins but tasks will include assisting with data management, data analysis, updating the Social Justice Funding Network database, conducting literature reviews, mapping exercises, and other duties as assigned, including limited administrative support.
Familiarity with philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, and experience working with the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and Access, and qualitative data analysis software, Lexis-Nexis, GuideStar, Charity Navigator are strongly preferred. This position requires a commitment to supporting the development of credible research which is defensible to a mainstream audience and furthers the process of democratizing socially just philanthropy.
This paid position requires the ability to multitask and to adapt to changing priorities as NCRP closes the first year of implementing our strategic plan. Interns from both undergraduate and graduate programs will be considered and the scope of work will align with the interns’ level of experience and education.
