Report Finds Many Education Donations Not Helping Under-Served Children

According to a recent study, big charitable foundations that give money to improve education do not always succeeded in doing so. The report from the National Committee for Responsible Philanthropy showed of the more than 670 foundations studied, 11% spent at least half of their education dollars on students in under-serve populations. The study added that even fewer of those organizations focused on long-term solutions to problems in education. Study author Kevin Welner said foundations need to spend more time getting to know the communities these grants are intended to help, and do more research before a check is written.
