The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, a D.C.-based arts funding watchdog, is criticizing the balance of private donations made to the arts for wealthy and ethnically diverse patrons. The NCRP claims billions of dollars in private arts funding is being funneled to an increasingly shrinking, mostly rich, largely white audience. Meanwhile, the funds for emerging art groups which serve racially diverse, sometimes lower income communities is being choked off.
