NCRP Selects Aaron Dorfman as its New Executive Director

Washington, D.C.- The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) announced today that Aaron Dorfman will be its new executive director beginning February 2007.

Dorfman is currently the executive director and lead organizer of People Acting for Community Together (PACT), an inter-faith coalition of congregations working towards social and economic justice for members of low- to moderate-income communities in Florida’s Miami-Dade County. PACT is one of over 20 similar organizations that constitute the Direct Action and Research Training (DART) network where Dorfman served as part of the senior management team.

David R. Jones, chairman of NCRP, called Dorfman an “ideal” choice. “Aaron Dorfman is a remarkable leader. His unwavering commitment to serving the disenfranchised members of our communities, and his skill in building coalitions among diverse interest groups, as well as his bold and innovative thinking, will enable NCRP to continue advocating for accountability and focus on social justice in the philanthropic sector,” said Jones.

Former Miami Herald publisher and president of The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation David Lawrence added, “Aaron has that combination of skill and intelligence and integrity that so few have.”

In 1992, Dorfman began his notable career in grassroots advocacy with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) in Chicago, then as head organizer of ACORN’s Minneapolis/St. Paul chapter. He was later asked to open a chapter in Miami. He subsequently joined PACT in 1997.

Under Dorfman’s leadership, PACT quadrupled its member institutions, raised their annual budget more than six-fold, and led successful campaigns that resulted in tangible policy reforms related to the public school system, public transportation, community policing and fair treatment of immigrants.

Dorfman expressed his pleasure at being chosen to lead the premier philanthropic watchdog organization in the U.S. “I look forward to building on NCRP’s history of great work, which spans over thirty years. Having run grassroots community organizations since 1992, I know first-hand the importance of NCRP’s mission. Responsive, accountable philanthropy that partners with low- income people’s organizations can dramatically transform communities and strengthen our democracy.”

Founded in 1976, the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy is dedicated to helping the philanthropic community advance the traditional values of social and economic justice for all Americans. Committed to helping funders more effectively serve the most disadvantaged Americans, NCRP is a national watchdog, research and advocacy organization that promotes public accountability and accessibility among foundations, corporate grantmakers, individual donors and workplace giving programs.
