NCRP'S RESPONSIVE PHILANTHROPY TACKLES WOMEN'S ISSUES

RP Looks at the Women's Movement, Women's Funds, and Human Trafficking

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) released today the fall/winter issue of Responsive Philanthropy. This issue of the quarterly journal addresses the women's sector of nonprofits and philanthropy, and encourages both communities to continue to work toward progressive social change.

"Although the past few decades have seen growth in the women's movement, more needs to be done to ensure that the future of the movement remains vibrant and responsive to the concerns of women worldwide," said Mary M. Lassen, interim executive director of NCRP. "With this issue of Responsive Philanthropy, we hope to encourage others to look hard at the issues faced by women and those who strive to assist them with finding their voice and the tools to live with dignity, respect and security."

Kiran Ahuja, national director of the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (NAPAWF), discusses the challenges faced by the women's movement and the critical role that young women, especially women of color, play in building on the progress made by the pioneering women activists in the U.S.

Chris Grumm, president of the Women's Funding Network (WFN), shares with NCRP the important contributions, successes and difficulties faced by women funders. Grumm also describes WFN's unique approach to responding to disasters such as hurricane Katrina, and how other philanthropic organizations can learn from their experience.

Finally, Norma Timbang, at-large representative at NAPAWF and an expert on the issue of human trafficking, examines how current efforts to prevent human trafficking and assist victims, especially women, are being affected by funders' restrictions.

Subscriptions to Responsive Philanthropy are free to NCRP members, and are also available to non-members for $25 annually for four issues. To subscribe, please visit www.ncrp.org.
