STATE OF PHILANTHROPY 2006 CALLS FOR INCREASED FOUNDATION ACCOUNTABILITY AND FUNDING FOR PROGRESSIVE CHANGE
Nonprofit and Foundation Experts Assess Current Trends and Advocate for Increased Innovation in Philanthropic Sector

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) released today State of Philanthropy 2006: Creating Dialogue for Tomorrow's Movements, a report that critically analyzes current trends within the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. The third in a series of biennial collections, State of Philanthropy 2006 features sector leaders and experts from an array of advocacy and research organizations.

"Current conversations about philanthropic accountability and effectiveness do not address the realities experienced everyday by most of our country's nonprofits, as well as the communities they serve and represent," said Jeff Krehely, NCRP Deputy Director. "By addressing these realities in State of Philanthropy 2006, we encourage people to ask the tough questions and begin contemplating the even tougher answers."

Although the report deals with complex issues, its underlying message is simple: Foundation and nonprofit efforts to meet the material and political needs of the disenfranchised must be strengthened, redirected, and refocused. In this era of conservative political domination, now is the time for progressive organizations within the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors to regroup. State of Philanthropy 2006 is a starting point for this greatly needed reorganization.
