NCRP'S FALL 2003 RESPONSIVE PHILANTHROPY NOW AVAILABLE
WASHINGTON - The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) today released the Fall 2003 edition of its quarterly journal, Responsive Philanthropy, a forum for progressive ideas, research and opinion aimed at enhancing philanthropic effectiveness. Articles in this issue may be of interest to nonprofits and journalists covering charitable/philanthropic issues; lesbian and gay equal rights issues; the Supreme Court, affirmative action and education; Congress; politics; and social justice. Articles may be reprinted with written permission from NCRP. The new edition can be read online at www.ncrp.org or requested by contacting NCRP. The new issue features the following articles:

  • "Equality's Frontier: Funding an End to Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity," by Allison McGee Johnson of the Gill Foundation. RP's cover story examines the current lack of equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans, as well as the need for financial support to match the growing public support for fairness.
  • "From Reform to Retreat: House Committee Caves to Pressure on Foundation Spending Provision," by NCRP Executive Director Rick Cohen, looks at the fate of the original version of Section 105 of H.R. 7 - a measure that could have helped charities and foundations alike before it was tampered with in committee.
  • "Conservative Foundations and the Assault on Affirmative Action," by NCRP Senior Research Assistant Meaghan House and former NCRP Development Intern Constance A. Lindsay, addresses conservative philanthropy's efforts to dismantle affirmative action programs.
  • "Building Core Competency: NCRP Meeting Kicks Off Bid to Help Foundations Boost Core Operating Support for Nonprofits," by former NCRP Research Intern Kaycee Misiewicz, offers highlights of a June meeting of nonprofit leaders exploring challenges to securing general support.
  • "Foundation Alms for the Rich? Money That Could Support Charitable Grants Is Instead Funding Wealthy Trustees, New Research Shows," by NCRP Communications Director Sloan C. Wiesen, looks at research questioning foundation trustee fees.
