WASHINGTON, DC – The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy announced today the election of Robert Edgar, Pablo Eisenberg and Priscilla Hung to the organization’s board of directors. “Bob, Pablo and Priscilla bring wisdom, energy and experience,” said Aaron Dorfman, NCRP’s executive director, “We are honored and excited to have them on board.” Robert Edgar is president and CEO of Common Cause, a national nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy organization working to make government at all levels more honest, open and accountable, and to connect citizens with their democracy. He also served as general secretary of the National Council of Churches prior to joining Common Cause. Mr. Edgar served six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was part of the congressional class nicknamed "the Watergate babies," those elected after the Watergate scandal and who led sweeping congressional reforms. Mr. Edgar sits on the board of other nonprofits, including the Independent Sector and the National Religious Partnership for the Environment. Pablo Eisenberg, a senior fellow at Georgetown University’s Public Policy Institute, is a leading scholar and advocate for greater accountability and commitment by philanthropy to the poor and people of color. He served for 23 years as executive director of the Center for Community Change. Mr. Eisenberg serves on the boards of other nonprofits, including Youth Today, Eureka Communities, the Milton Eisenhower Foundation, ICChange and the University College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University. He is a founder and former board chair of NCRP. Priscilla Hung, one of the sector’s young and up-and-coming leaders, is the co-director of the Grassroots Institute for Fundraising Training, which provides fundraising resources, training, and analysis to organizations nationwide, especially those that are working for social justice and are based in communities of color. Ms. Hung also serves on the board of National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum. The new board members will join 17 other directors who were re-elected for continued service during last Saturday’s board meeting. Six board members stepped down due to term limits or other factors, including: Lana Cowell, vice president of Our Giving Community; Louis Delgado an independent consultant for nonprofits; Richard Farias, CEO of Tejano Center for Community Concerns; Larry Kressley, former executive director of the Public Welfare Foundation; Nadia Moritz, executive director of the Young Women’s Project; and Jodi Williams, former executive director of Community Shares of Minnesota. “We are extremely grateful to our six colleagues who have given so much of their time and energy in service of NCRP,” said David R. Jones, NCRP board chair and president and CEO of the Community Service Society of New York. “We’re a better organization because of it.” A complete list of NCRP’s current board of directors and brief biographies are available at www.ncrp.org. NCRP is a national watchdog, research and advocacy organization that promotes philanthropy that serves the public good, is responsive to people and communities with the least wealth and opportunity, and is held accountable to the highest standards of integrity and openness.
