Taj James leads a consulting firm that helps foundations and nonprofits design and implement strategies and programs based on the principles of collective impact. He has helped launch and support new alliances such as Strong Families and the Climate Justice Alignment. Taj has also played a key role in building new funding collaboratives and strategies to increase investment in grassroots organizing and alliance building, such as California Fund for Youth Organizing and Move to End Violence Initiative.
Prior to launching MSC, Mr. James worked as director of youth and policy development at Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth, and as western regional field organizer for the Children’s Defense Fund’s Black Student Leadership Network. He has served on the boards of The Praxis Project, Youth United for Community Action and Funders’ Collaborative on Youth Organizing and other organizations. He has written extensively on the topics of movement building, organizational change, and on the role of young people in social change.
A graduate of Stanford University, Mr. James was a recipient of a Next Generation Leadership fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation and was named a “Local Hero” by the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
